i've been excited to share this family session ever since i left their home. they have a beautiful space that they have created and i had the joy of documenting this season for them back in january.
as always, i asked what chelsea's favorite part about motherhood is -
"my favorite thing about motherhood is that it's shown me strength i didn't know i had. childbirth, breastfeeding and parenting are much harder than anything i've done before. and yet somehow, i keep making it through. i feel like after this, i could handle anything."
meet sam, chelsea and their little, luc river.
last month, i spent some time with this sweet family in their home. josh and monique are part of a small church community and they both sing and play in the worship band - beautifully i might add. while monique was making me coffee, i could hear josh singing in his office and asked if he'd play for me while i photographed. that's where this shoot begins.
before sharing their world with you, i always ask mama's their favorite part of motherhood and what mantra they choose to live by -
"my favorite part of motherhood is how it is constantly changing me. in dark days my kids bring light. when i fall terribly short of ideal, my kids are so forgiving. their love has changed me just as much as my love forms and changes them.
so i love that these boys in their curious, wild, needy, joyful, disobedient, dancing, and loving selves call me up and remind me of something greater that i'm living for. - motherhood is so much about giving, so you are constantly confronted with choosing selfishness or selflessness. even when you fail you will still be presented with the opportunity to change and be selfless as well. that is such a gift."
as for the mantra -
"well i have a quote that i have repeated over and over to myself over the years. it reminds me that living for yourself keeps you narrow minded and without -
do not resent your place in the story. do not imagine yourself elsewhere. do not close your eyes and picture a world without thorns, without shadows, without hawks. change this world. use your body like a tool meant to be used up, discarded, and replaced, our comfort is not the goal in this life. "
motherhood can be very uncomfortable at times, days can be hard but it helps me to remember even on hard days my life is forming other human lives. sacrifice is powerful. sometimes mom’s resent when they are unable to to what they want, but Galatians says to “use your freedom to serve one another in love; “ i have freedom to serve in love and this changes me and them. that is pretty wonderful.
photographing this family was a complete honor for me - not only is mo a natural beauty, she is full of love, light and wisdom. you'll see this come out in the photos.
meet the wears family - josh, monique, jayden + siah .

i've been working with my gal, laura of bride kc for a couple of years now and every time we finish a look book or styled shoot, i think "this is my favorite." she's amazing at what she does and together, i feel as though we represent the same bride - the non-traditional, effortless, minimal, ethereal, feminine, edgy bride.
for this look book, we photographed in the new wedding venue, la villa which was an absolute dream and perfect for this shoot.
also, summerhouse was a part of our team again (they collaborated with us on the very first look book) and created an amazing video, check it out below.
so excited for this ss look book launch, enjoy .
here is the video that the talented guys over at summerhouse put together for this project -
it was a goal of mine in the new year to pursue personal projects, collaborate more and challenge myself creatively.
this shoot is a great start for me.
i've been meaning to work with my gals at shop dear society, a modern & vintage shop here in kansas city. molly, a kansas city native turned australian model was in town for the holiday and we knew she would be the perfect muse model for our visual diary.
a visual diary consisting of -
monochromatic elements, beautifully painted florals, dewy makeup, power suits, dainty vintage pieces, a rattan chair and a touch of modern.
a huge thank you to our amazing all-women team especially my friend, chanel for planning and executing this dream shoot with me.

while in nashville, i was lucky enough to photograph quite a few families - first up, the thomas clan.
since their home is in the early stages of getting built, we were lucky enough to shoot in the beautiful, wendell home located in east nash - it is minimal, warm and had the best light fixtures! it was the perfect space to document this season for the thomas family.
meet ryan, elizabeth, ollie + cedar .

i met haley and austin while in austin the other week celebrating a friend's birthday. i felt like it was an instant friendship and i just knew i had to photograph them.
austin makes incredible hats over at zito hat co. go check them out. i can't wait to start wearing the one he is currently making me! it's very similar to the one haley is wearing in this shoot.
we spent a little time at their home, with their dog tater and walking around their neighborhood.
meet, haley + austin .
while in nashville this past month, i was finally able to photograph my dear friends, jordie + trent.
they are two of the most genuine, kind souls i know and i am so thankful to have made these photographs for them.
we started at their cozy home in crieve hall, built a fire in the backyard, then explored one of their favorite outdoor areas that was filled with the autumn trees.
jordie wears one of my favorite brands, shop doen.
meet, jordie & trent.
liz & colin are the stylish, cool, know-of-all-things-good type of couple.
i knew i had to photograph their wedding soon after i found out they were engaged - so glad we hit it off and i could be a part of this. the day was magic - it started by having their first look in the gorgeous, garfield conservatory to riding around in a vintage rolls royce to eating tacos to having the best celebration with their closest friends and family.

while in chicago a couple weeks ago, i had the chance to meet up with the lovely, amanda jane jones and her littles at their favorite beach in south side.
amanda is a very talented freelance graphic designer and the founding art director of kinfolk (& also grew up in kansas!)
i had the chance to ask her a couple of questions about motherhood -
- what does motherhood mean to you? unconditional love
- your mantra or quote you live by? I know it's a popular one right now but we have "work hard and be kind" on our letter board as a constant reminder that hard work pays off and that you'll never regret being kind.
- favorite clothier brands for mama: Ace and Jig, Elizabeth Suzann, Doen for the kids: Babaa Knitwear, Misha and Puff, Mabo, Ira Loves Mae, Alice and Ames, Zuzii, Fawn Shoppe
- what advice do you have for mama's? you know your children better than anyone else. Follow your gut, and never pass up cuddles.
it was definitely a day to remember - the kids ran straight for the water, poor miles was stung by a bee and the sun was so so bright and sparkly. all of that said, i feel as though i took a different approach to this session and i really love how it turned out.
meet amanda, miles & jane .
oh, where to begin. . . .
magic. vulnerability. light. joy. motherhood.
a few choice words to describe this beautiful session with my friend, nico + her daughter, maribell. the shoot took place at her home in fayetteville, arkansas. i have been following nico for quite awhile on instagram and have always admired her grace, compassion and love for her children. i felt as if i was being called to document her maternal nature and relationship with her three littles. since the boys were at school, i ended up spending the morning getting to know nico and maribell.
i asked nico her favorite part about motherhood -
"i love the personal growth and self acceptance that has come along in the humbling process of becoming a mother and parenting children. i love that being a mother offers insight to just what it might have been like for my own parents and it’s truly wonderful to get an idea of just how much I was loved as a child."
before we made our way to her bedroom to start shooting, nico put "the wild reeds" on vinyl and i watched as maribell danced through the living room--it's always such a joy to see children react to music.
it was an honor to photograph nico and her little babe and i need to thank nico for allowing me to create amazing, honest, beautiful work - she wasn't afraid and that really set the tone for the entire morning and i created some of my best work when it comes to celebrating a mother/daughter relationship.
truly one of my favorite motherhood sessions to date.
"just keep swimming."
prepare your hearts .
